Abstract:
As regards to the most common oral disease inpediatric patients, intellectual disability is not arisk factor for caries disease itself, but it ratherreduces the individual capability to self-care andtherefore to his own oral care. Children sufferingof systemic pathologies and/or with differentstages of disability are to be considered at highrisk for dental caries development. According torecent guidelines for oral health prevention inchildhood, individual additional strategies for apreventive care should be applied for these patients. All the health providers, family and caregiversshould be involved with the aim of beingaware, motivated and informed on oral health issues, and a better access system to the dentalcare structure, both logistic, professional andeconomical should be assured.
