abstract:
The idea of community is intimately linked to the land. Without the latter, there would be no former. It would lack a place, a territory. That’s why any reference to the land – even when today communities are increasingly dematerialized – remains fundamental. The surface on which we live has been and continues to be a source, a resource, and a precious asset, but also a tool of domination and terror. Rousseau was right: if someone, to that first man who fenced off a piece of land saying “this is mine”, had shouted “imposter” reasserting that the land belongs to no one, and its fruits are for all, then there would have been fewer crimes, fewer wars, fewer murderers, less misery...
