Children’s Literature and Migration. Theoretical Perspectives and Resources for Practice

Migration and multiculturalism related issues have become central especially in the latter half of the 20th century and early 21st century. Within the critical debate of the multicultural perspective, this paper explores potential of children’s literature, specifically multicultural picturebooks and wordless picturebooks to promote intercultural education. Multicultural picture books and wordless picture books are sophisticated yet accessible specific sub-genre of literature that use both words and illustrations in their narrative constructions. They can be useful educational devices to create narrative empathy. After to examine the theoretical perspectives, the paper provides useful resources for practice./ Fragen der Migration und des Multikulturalismus sind gegen Ende der zweiten Hälfte des 20. und im frühen 21. Jahrhundert in den Fokus gerückt. Dieser Beitrag untersucht aus der Perspektive einer kritischen multikulturellen Debatte das Potenzial von Kinderlitera-tur, insbesondere von interkulturellen Bilderbüchern mit und ohne Text, für die Förderung einer interkulturellen Erziehung. Multikulturelle Bilderbücher mit und ohne Text sind eine spezielle, aber leicht zugängliche Form der Kinderliteratur, die Wörter und vor allem Bil-der in besonderer Weise verwenden, um ihr Narrativ zu konstruieren. Sie können ein nütz-liches Bildungsmedium zur Weckung von Empathie sein. Nach der Einführung in theore-tische Perspektiven des Themas gibt dieser Beitrag einige nützliche Hinweise für die Praxis.
