This article analyses some passages from texts that are part of the
African Pentecostal demonology corpus. The aim is to illustrate the ambivalence of
the prosperity message which announces a miraculous wealth as a form of worldly
salvation. In Particular, the article shows how this salvation message can be
associated with an occult economy, controlled by Satan. In the analysed texts this
connection takes place through the mediation of the demonized spirit of Mami Wata,
queen of the water kingdom.
