This paper looks at the research literature on the evaluation of Executive Coaching (EC) effectiveness and examines
theoretical and empirical models proposed. The discussion follows two different paths which are both focused on the
achievement of a common goal. The first section describes the different theories proposed within the international context, to
define processes involved in an ideal practice of effective EC. There after, the same topic is discussed from an empirical perspective
considering empirical research on the area, and highlighting criticisms connected to the discrepancy between theory
and research and the different facets of research techniques. The final discussion aims to anticipate a potential scenario of
evaluative research on EC effectiveness, as well as critically discuss possible integrations between theoretical models and empirical purposes.
