abstract:
The argument of the historical-cultural routes is a very topical issue, on which the process of constructing a common identity, so important for Europe, relies. The occasion of the centenary of Great War is a reason to reflect not only about the spatial and geopolitical meanings of the war, but also about the legacy transmitted to current generations. From a reading of documentary sources preserved in the archives of the Italian Geographical Society, and through a comprehensive review of the main initiatives which were already undertaken after the conflict, and in more recent years, the aim of the paper is to emphasize how the cultural and historical heritage, and tangible and intangible, can be now reorganized in terms of a new tourist offer, in order to build a new European identity.
