ntroduction Health systems need trained and competent professionals to meet socio-demographic changes, the effects of globalization and the evolution of technology. Professional skills are a strategic hub to put in communication different subsystems (education, university, work) to define what goals of specific types of study courses should be considered.Twelve years after starting the master’s degree in nursing, this study aims to focus on the distinctive skills of the professional graduate, so as to be able to identify the shared vision of the experts and prefigure the future of the master’s degree.Methods For this survey, we used Delphi method: a panel of 8 experts was formed, to whom two questionnaires were administered. The first one was composed of 10 topics of investigation on which they can express freely their opinion; the second one, the result from the synthesis of the first answers, to express the degree of agreement on individual statements.Results Experts agree that education plays a major role in contributing to the development of core competencies. Among the skills required the “teamwork” and the “leadership” have greater consensus and uniformity of opinion.The outlined skills present a middle manager who has the role of organizing, coordinating and supervising not only a team of people, but also entire clinical/organizational processes.Conclusions This survey allows to draw new lines of discussion for the development of the master's degree and its core curriculum.
