The idea for the research project Nomina sunt consequentia rerum stems from a reflection on the educational value of cultural heritage: in particular, epigraphs will be taken into consideration in relation to the development of linguistic, analytical and critical thinking abilities of secondary school pupils. After an overview of the state of the art of critical thinking skills definition and promo- tion in museum education context, an experimental research is conducted on didactic path aimed at promoting knowledge of the epigraph and linguistic, analysis, argumentation and evaluation skills. Three secondary schools in the province of Rome participate in the research; the museum context selected for the experimental phase is the Lapidary Gallery of the Capitoline Museums. The validation of the evaluation tool, the experimentation and the evaluation of the didactic paths are still in progress.
