abstract:
The present doctoral research addresses the topic of school motivation through Self-Determination Theory (SDT; Ryan & Deci, 2017). The aim is to explore the fundamental element for students’ well-being and success according to SDT: autonomy support provided by teachers. The first part of the research clarifies the construct of “autonomy support”. The second part presents a longitudinal study conducted in four secondary schools, providing tools to evaluate this support according to recent SDT guidelines on the various strategies that characterize teachers’ daily actions in the classroom.
