Influence of prebiotic administration on inflammatory and glycaemic markers in type-2 diabetes

Articolo
Data di Pubblicazione:
2020
Abstract:
Prebiotics are often administered with the dailydiet: they have been widely investigated in recentyears, and several researchers have assessed that ptheycan favorably affect health and cell aging. Prebioticsseem to actively enhance several antioxidant pathwaysthat overall improve the immune homeostasis, alsoincreasing the suppression of chronic inflammation andthe prevention of insulin resistance (1).Prebiotics may promote changes in the bacterialcomposition and/or in the main activities of thegastrointestinal tract; moreover, they have been shownto improve the gut environment and its microbiome, often closely associated with the onset and severityof type-2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Furthermore, prebiotics can modulate the production of haemoglobin-A1c (HbA1c), thus modulating the glycaemic valuesdetected just after lunch. Finally, prebiotics havebeen associated with a slight reduction of the maininflammatory markers, in T2DM patients (1,2).
